Meridian Analysis

What is Meridian Energy Reading?

In the core of Traditional Chinese Medicine, there are 14 Meridians that runs throughout the human body. Their function is to provide transportation of Qi (The energy force) and Blood (Nutrients). When the channel is obstructed, illness or discomfort will start to occur, such as pain, stress, lack of energy, or insomnia.

By using a device called EMAS (Electro Meridian Analysis System), we can clearly monitor which Meridians are abnormal and balanced, and use acupuncture or herbs to adjust the imbalances and get you back to the healthiest condition!

Reading EMAS Chart

EMAS chart is easy to read. Everyone can do it easily at a glance. From the chart we can see there are three colors of the bars, where

Green: Normal, the energy is at balanced level as good as it can be.

Yellow: Tolerable, the energy is somewhat imbalanced, yet you might not be discomfort from it yet.

Red: Imbalanced, where it indicates that this meridian needs immediate attention and might be the source of your condition.

There are 12 measured meridians, please scroll down for the details.

Please note that there are many "patterns" where when one or more meridian combined can mean more complicated conditions. It may also represent your body type after several measurement. Please consult with your doctor for more detailed reading.

Lung Meridian

The Lung Meridian connects with the Large Intestine Meridian, with which it is externally-internally related. Based on the theories of Chinese medicine, the Lungs govern qi and manage respiration. In addition, the lungs are also responsible for regulating the water passages. Therefore, abnormalities of this meridian will result in lung-related diseases, such as edema and respiratory problems. Symptoms of fullness in the chest, cough, asthma, and shortness of breath show an abnormality of the lungs. Abnormality of circulation in the Lung Meridian will result in pain of shoulders, back, and arms, etc. The Lungs govern skin and hair. Therefore, the Lungs play an important role in the quality of the skin. Exterior evils, such as wind, often invade the lungs through the skin and hair, directly affecting the Lungs.

【The Meridian’s peak time period】:

Peak qi and blood flow in the Lung Meridian is from 3:00 am to 5:00 am.

【Principal Systems Influenced】

1.Diseases of the respiratory system.

2.Diseases along the course of the Lung Meridian.

Pericardium Meridian

The Pericardium Meridian connects with the Sanjiao Meridian, with which it is externally-internally related. Based on traditional Chinese medical theory, symptoms of the Pericardium Meridian are related to an imbalance in the function of the heart and blood. Symptoms include pain in the heart region, chest fullness and oppression, palpitations, etc. Based on traditional Chinese medical theory, the heart stores the spirit and houses the mind. This means it manages mental and psychological activity. Diseases like manic-depressive disorder are also related to the Pericardium Meridian. In addition, swelling and distention in the armpits and elbows also shows problems of this meridian. As heart function is helped by the pericardium, the clinical symptoms and treatment are similar.

【The Meridian’s peak time period】:

Peak qi and blood flow in the Pericardium Meridian is from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

【Principal Systems Influenced】:

The Sanjiao Meridian connects with the Pericardium Meridian, with which it is externally-internally related. Symptoms of the Sanjiao Meridian include abdominal distention, edema, enuresis, difficult urination, deafness, tinnitus, etc. In addition, abnormalities of Sanjiao Meridian circulation also result in sore throat, and pain of the eyes, cheeks, shoulders, elbows, the region behind the ears, etc.

The Sanjiao is not a single organ. In fact, it is an important pathway to transmit qi, blood, and water through the body. If the Sanjiao Meridian is unblocked, the body will be healthy. If Sanjiao Meridian is blocked, the body will suffer from all kinds of diseases.

On the other hand, since the Sanjiao exists all over the body, abnormalities of the Sanjiao often reflect abnormalities of other organs, such as inflammation and infection. So when we discover an abnormality of the Sanjiao Meridian, we should find out whether any sort of abnormality exists in the other meridians. And if the overall body energy is low, we should determine if it is caused by an abnormality of Sanjiao Meridian or by other factors.

【The Meridian’s peak time period】:

Peak qi and blood flow in the Sanjiao Meridian is from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

【Principal Systems Influenced】

1.Diseases of the chest, heart, lungs, and throat.

Heart Meridian

The Heart Meridian connects with the Small Intestine Meridian, with which it is externally-internally related. Abnormalities of the Heart Meridian may result in pain of the heart region (chest). Based on traditional Chinese medical theory, the heart governs the blood and vessels. If there is poor blood circulation, the blood cannot moisten and nourish. This may cause dry throat and thirst. Pain of the elbows and a sensation of heat in the palms also show an abnormality in the Heart Meridian. Heart Meridian abnormalities can also affect the vessels, brain, thyroid gland, mental state and so on. Because the Heart has its ‘opening’ in the tongue and the channel goes to the tip of the tongue, abnormalities of the Heart Meridian can lead to stiffness of the tongue and affect the functions of taste and speech.

【The Meridian’s peak time period】:

Peak qi and blood flow in the Heart Meridian is from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, noon.

Small Intestine Meridian

The Small Intestine Meridian connects with the Heart Meridian, with which it is externally-internally related. Abnormalities of the Small Intestine Meridian will cause diseases like mumps, tonsillitis, deafness, and dark yellow eyes. In addition, pain of the shoulders and elbows also reveals problems resulting from the Small Intestine Meridian. The digestive function of the Small Intestine actually needs secretions from the Spleen (in fact, this refers to pancreatic juices) and the Gallbladder. The outlets of the pancreatic ducts and bile duct are both in the duodenum, so diseases of the Small Intestine and Spleen influence each other. When abnormalities occur in the Small Intestine Meridian, the treatment often uses the same method used to treat the Liver. For differential diagnosis, please consult with the Spleen, Gallbladder and Liver Channels. Only then can you determine whether the Small Intestine Meridian abnormalities are complicated by other channels and collaterals.

【The Meridian’s peak time period】:

Peak qi and blood flow in the Small Intestine Meridian is from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

【Principal Systems Influenced】:

1.Diseases of the chest, heart, throat, or small intestine.

The main functions of the Kidneys are to separate waste and excessive water from the blood, produce urine, and pass it outside the body. Besides the kidney organ, the Kidney channel includes the whole reproductive system, bones, ears, and some brain functions. So its abnormality may affect sexual and genital functions, the bones, and hearing. Symptoms which appear frequently, such as insomnia, vertigo, and memory loss, are due to abnormalities of the Kidney Meridian.

The Kidneys receive qi, so symptoms of the kidneys include cough and asthma. The Kidneys govern water metabolism, so abnormalities of the kidneys will cause edema, constipation, abnormal defecation, and diarrhea. In addition, pain of lumbar region or throat shows an abnormality in the circulation of Kidney Meridian. Renal hypertension is caused by nephro-arteriosclerosis, which in turn causes angiostenosis. This has a considerable influence on the function of brain. Tinnitus is also a sign of abnormal blood pressure.

*** Most kidney diseases are deficiency syndromes.
